Presentation at the Austrian Society for Foreign Policy and the United Nations (ÖGAVN)

On January 12, 2022, the third volume of the EICTP Vienna Research Papers on Transnational Terrorism and Counter Terrorism, entitled “Trends and Scenarios of Transnational Terrorism,” was presented to the Austrian Society for Foreign Policy and the United Nations (ÖGAVN) by the EICTPs President Herbert Scheibner and editor Dr. Nicolas Stockhammer.
Based on a key factor analysis, Stockhammer outlined a trend scenario indicating major developments in transnational terrorism. In addition to progressive virtualization along the terrorist “value chain,” he said, it is above all the atomization of extremist violence and a related recourse to low-level methods by radicalized individual perpetrators that will determine events in the long term. In addition, the transnationalization of terrorism and the conflict-terror nexus have a significant influence on developments in this segment. The explanations were rounded off by numerous questions and a lively discussion.
